Santiago del Estero, November 16 (NA) – Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero drew 1-1 at home against Banfield in the sixteenth round of the Clausura Tournament, missing a good chance to finish second in Zone A.
The first goal of the match was scored by the home team's forward Leonardo Heredia in the 47th minute of the first half, but Banfield's midfielder Martín Río equalized in the 33rd minute of the second half.
With this result, the Santiago del Estero team moved into second place in Zone A with 26 points, with the possibility of dropping to third in the worst-case scenario. However, Banfield spoiled the home team's party when, just past the half-hour mark of the second half, Martín Río rose high to head the ball and score the final 1-1. Despite the hard-fought draw in Santiago del Estero, it was not enough for Banfield to qualify for the playoffs. Central Córdoba, for its part, remained in fourth place with 24 points and could even drop to fifth in Zone A. The team will find out its opponent in the Round of 16 of the playoffs this Monday, which will be covered live by the Argentine News Agency.
