Argentine tennis player Camilo Ugo Carabelli (69th in the ATP ranking) achieved a remarkable victory this Thursday against Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (108th) by 4-6, 7-6(2), and 6-3 in the round of 16 at the Chile Open. With this triumph, Carabelli advanced to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
In a match that lasted 2 hours and 41 minutes, the Argentine player prevailed in a very close encounter. Carabelli managed to stay strong on the court and overcome Monteiro, ensuring his place among the top eight at the Chile Open.
"I am very happy with this victory. It was a tough match, but I managed to stay focused and give my best on each point," commented Carabelli after his victory. This is the second consecutive time the Argentine has reached the quarter-finals of an ATP tournament, having reached this stage at the Rio Open previously.
The match began with a service break in favor of Monteiro in the first game, complicating the start for Carabelli. However, the Argentine managed to stay in the game and force a very close second set, which was decided in an exciting tie-break that Carabelli dominated from start to finish.
In the final set, Carabelli managed to break Monteiro's serve twice, allowing him to seal his passage to the quarter-finals. The 25-year-old Argentine will face the winner of the match between his compatriot Federico Coria and Chilean Alejandro Tabilo in the next round of the tournament.
