Rubén Darío Jerez, missing for 23 years, will be remembered at an event this Friday, October 25, in Santa Teresita. That date in 2001 was the last time he was seen in the town of Partido de la Costa. Viviana Zubiaurre, his wife, has expressed that the case has expired due to the time elapsed and not because it has reached a conclusive trial.
Zubiaurre highlighted that the investigation was carried out poorly, stating that "everything was done wrong." The Provincial Commission for Memory has presented the case to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH) to consider it an enforced disappearance and demand an investigation that reveals the truth and puts an end to two decades of impunity.
At the event, which will take place at 20:30, the presence of Flor Arán, Federico Galetti, and community members is expected, who, along with the family, will seek to reaffirm their fight for justice. Despite the expiration of the case, the possibility of reclassifying it as a crime against humanity is being studied to prevent the case from falling into impunity.
Darío Jerez's wife has urged the community to join in this commemoration and continue demanding answers about her husband's disappearance. Darío Jerez remains missing, and the investigation has not significantly progressed in these 23 years. The family's and community's struggle seeks to keep the memory alive and prevent similar cases from happening in the future. The event will take place at "Diagonal Darío Jerez," the corner where he was last seen, in Santa Teresita, as a constant reminder of his absence.
