Buenos Aires, March 5 (NA) – Former footballer Luis Miguel “Pulga” Rodríguez will have his farewell match next Sunday, June 7, at the Brigadier Estanislao López stadium in Colón. According to the Argentine News Agency, the 41-year-old former player will be honored at the club where he ended his career and where he made history as the key figure in the only First Division title won by the “Sabalero”: the 2021 League Cup. Despite going through a difficult institutional period and starting his third consecutive season in the National First Division, Colón will lend its stadium and seek to put on a great show, with the presence of other champion players from that five-year-old cup, to honor one of its idols. Although he never officially announced his retirement, “Pulga” Rodríguez played his last match at the end of 2025, when he joined Colón mid-tournament with the mission of saving it from relegation, in a dismal campaign for a club that had started the season with the goal of returning to the First Division. With his physique compromised during his last months as a professional, “Pulga” captained the team during his five starts in his return to Santa Fe and provided two assists in his first two matches, which gave them six vital points to secure their permanence. However, after his triumphant start, Colón went 10 matches without winning, before closing the National First Division with a narrow victory over the relegated Defensores Unidos of Zárate in a match where Rodríguez played the final minutes of his career, entering the field in the 32nd minute of the second half. “Pulga” had already said goodbye to Colón in January, when it was confirmed that he would not be considered for the following season, with a message on his social networks where he thanked the “Sabalero people” for allowing him to “be part of his history” and stated that he would keep them in his heart forever. Three months before his farewell match, participants for which will be confirmed later, Luis Rodríguez is already thinking about the future: he finished his coaching course and plans to launch himself in this new role during the second half of the year, with Guillermo Cinquetti, a former colleague of Miguel Ángel Russo, as his physical trainer.
