The government of Santa Fe, under Governor Maximiliano Pullaro, has launched a plan to recruit 2,600 new prison agents to strengthen the province's security. The Ministry of Justice and Security has extended the online registration period exclusively for male applicants from the central and southern zones of the province until November 30th, with the deadline for document submission extended to December 13th.
This initiative is part of a major project to construct a new high-security prison complex, "El Infierno," in Piñero. Construction began in March 2025 with an investment of over 109 billion pesos. Secretary of Penal Affairs, Lucía Masneri, highlighted that the new facility will be professionally certified and will consist of 4 mini-prisons and a central government building, providing a total of 1,152 places.
Masneri explained that 75% of the positions are reserved for men, as prison guards must be of the same gender as the inmates they are tasked with monitoring. The new "El Infierno" facility will house over 1,000 male inmates.
Key features of the prison include a double perimeter wall, watchtowers every 70 meters, and a 36-meter central tower for a 360-degree view. It will also have an on-site health facility, a conference room, and a helipad.
Requirements for applicants include: * Must be an Argentine citizen. * Must hold a high school diploma. * Must be between 18 and 28 years old at the time of registration. * Must reside in the province of Santa Fe. * Must possess the physical and psychological aptitudes required by regulations. * Must have a good conduct and honorable background. * Must not have been dismissed from the public administration. * Must uphold the principles of freedom and democracy as per the National Constitution.
This plan aims to free up police officers from guarding prisoners in police stations, allowing them to focus on their primary duties, and to implement strict controls in provincial prisons to improve the quality of life for Santa Fe residents.
