Mass Protests in Jujuy for Urgent Salary Update

Buenos Aires, March 5 (NA) — Various public sectors, including security forces, teachers, and several state guilds, demonstrated this Thursday in the center of San Salvador de Jujuy demanding an 'urgent salary update' from the government of Carlos Saadi.

On one hand, families and retired security personnel mobilized at Plaza Belgrano under the banner of an 'urgent salary update,' denouncing supposed 'VIP salaries' for agents of 'high hierarchy,' while lower-ranking personnel earns 'salaries below inflation.'

Regarding the education sector, Argentina News Agency learned that all unions adhered to all forceful measures, which included the national strike last Monday, and denounced 'precarious' salaries with no possibility of negotiating new collective bargaining agreements.

Healthcare workers, both professionals and administrative staff, also demanded salary improvements, and in many cases, the permanent hiring of contract employees who constantly renew their status.

Similarly, state guilds, along with social organizations and leftist groups, protested against the labor reform and the austerity policies being implemented by Saadi's administration, in line with President Javier Milei's economic plan.

This situation was compounded by social discontent caused by the abrupt loss of purchasing power due to inflation and the historical struggle linked to lithium exploitation and the rights of indigenous peoples.
