The Radical Union (UCR) gathered a large number of leaders and activists in San Rafael today for a lunch that served as a political platform for the upcoming February 22nd city council elections. UCR Mendoza President, Andrés Lombardi, headed this event, which was full of political definitions, criticism of the municipal administration, and a message of consolidating the change initiated in the province. Vice Governor Hebe Casado also joined this activity, which was attended by party leaders and provincial legislators elected in the October elections, who highlighted the unity of the space and the historic opportunity to transform San Rafael.
Local and provincial leaders agreed that the October result—when Cambia Mendoza + La Libertad Avanza defeated Emir Félix in his own territory—marked a political turning point and opened a cycle that could end with the municipal administration out of power in 2027.
The Beginning of a New Era UCR Mendoza President, Lombardi, recalled the electoral milestone achieved in October and emphasized that the results express a profound change in San Rafael society. "Not only did we beat the Peronists in the province, which is becoming a habit for us, but you, all of you, are the ones who made it possible for us to beat Emir Félix as a national deputy candidate. It was historic for the Félix family to lose in San Rafael, because when they lost on other slates, they would hide. It's a celebration of having beaten the Félix family on their own turf and knowing that we have a great team for 2027. Now we have another battle: the city council elections. They are taking the matter into their own hands and acting on it." He was also critical of the current municipal administration, indicating that "we need to worry about the underlying problems of the citizens," to which he added that the municipal elections were split due to "political speculation" and that "that enormous cost they are going to spend not only on calling the elections but afterwards on the constituent assembly, it would be good if it were poured into the benefit of the sanrafaelinos to improve the streets, finish the gas pipeline," which "they have been working on for six years and never inaugurate. We have shown that we can lead mature processes, close slates, and compete without tutelage. That's false: he did poorly because he was poorly governed," he stressed.
In this context, Casado listed works and programs carried out by the province, especially those related to health, education, water, and connectivity, highlighting that today, "all schools have had intervention: there are no schools without gas or structural problems. In addition, each one will have connectivity, because we also believe in equal opportunities in rural districts," she exemplified.
The Vice Governor dedicated a special passage to two debates installed by the municipal administration and local Peronism: security and the anti-hail fight. She responded with concrete data that "when they come to attack us from the left, tell them: remove the agitators and put patrol officers on the street. Emir has already lost. And you are going to lose again in February."
