San Lorenzo club has decided to acquire the Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill after he stood out in the 2025 preseason and the injury of the starting goalkeeper Facundo Altamirano during a friendly match against Nacional. The club's management, led by Marcelo Moretti, has disbursed 500 thousand dollars to Sportivo San Lorenzo of Paraguay for 50% of the economic rights of the 24-year-old goalkeeper.
Orlando Gill arrived at the club at the beginning of 2024 on loan and played most of the matches in the Reserve team. However, his outstanding performance against Independiente del Valle of Ecuador, where he kept a clean sheet and saved a decisive penalty in the shootout, earned him a starting position. Given these events, the Board of Directors chose to acquire Gill permanently, signing him until December 2027.
The head coach, Miguel Ángel Russo, has shown his support for the goalkeeper whose performances have backed him. Despite the management's attempts to hire renowned goalkeepers like Keylor Navas or Andries Noppert, the decision to bet on the young Paraguayan talent has been firm. Orlando Gill is expected to be the starter in the team's next match in the Copa de la Liga Apertura Tournament, where San Lorenzo will face Talleres de Córdoba on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
