A magnitude 5.8 earthquake was felt in the province of San Juan without causing damage, reported the National Institute of Seismic Prevention (Inpres). The seismic event occurred at 7:59 PM, at a depth of 112 kilometers, with an epicenter 70 kilometers southeast of the town of Iglesia, in San Juan. This area is 82 kilometers northwest of the city of San Juan, the provincial capital, and so far, no casualties or material damages have been reported.

The region of the epicenter is sparsely populated and is located about 1,230 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires. According to the Cuyo newspaper, the earthquake was also felt in some Chilean regions such as Atacama, Coquimbo, and Valparaíso, and was sensed in other Argentine provinces, including Córdoba.
