Court Resumes Hearing in Maradona Case

Today the second hearing is taking place at the Oral Criminal Court No. 3 of San Isidro regarding the case of the death of Diego Armando Maradona. On this day, a decision will be made about the continuation of lawyer Rodolfo Baqué in the defense of nurse Ricardo Almirón, one of the seven accused of the alleged "simple homicide with eventual intent" of the former player.

At the beginning of the debate, readings of the parties' outlines were made, and requests for absolutions of the defendants were submitted by their advisers. It is expected that the judges will determine whether Baqué will continue in the defense of Almirón, as well as address other nullities presented during the first hearing.

The request for Baqué to leave Almirón's defense is due to the fact that he also represents nurse Gisela Dahiana Madrid, who will face a jury trial later this year. This conflict arose when the lawyer for psychologist Carlos Díaz raised concerns about the duality of roles that Baqué could be performing between defense and prosecution.

Fernando Burlando, adviser to Dalma and Giannina Maradona, described the situation as "serious" and requested that it be analyzed, supported by the lawyers of neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agostina Cosachov. There is concern about a possible conflict of interest, as Baqué could favor another of his clients to the detriment of Almirón.

In radio statements, Baqué mentioned that Almirón is grateful to have him as his lawyer and expressed that the nurse told him that "God put him in his path." During the day, the request for nullity of a cardiological examination and the possibility of implementing two weekly hearings will also be discussed, among other preliminary issues of importance in the case.
