Controversy Surrounds Trial of Maradona's Caregivers

Lawyer Ricardo Almirón, accused in the case of the alleged "simple homicide with eventual intent" of Diego Armando Maradona, stated that his client was only "following orders" from neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov. After the first day of the trial for Maradona's death, Rodolfo Baqué, Almirón's defense lawyer, spoke with Radio Colonia to reiterate that, while he believes there was a plan to kill the former Boca footballer, his client was not involved as he was hired to be part of a psychiatric treatment; in Baqué's words: "He executed".

In a radio interview, Baqué insisted on his defense of Almirón, mentioning that the nurse received medical instructions from Luque and Cosachov, in addition to revealing that the deceased coach, Sebastián Almirón, trusted him greatly and stated that God placed him in his path. Baqué also pointed out that there was another nurse in the Tigre house in the days leading up to Maradona's death, when Almirón and Gisela Madrid were not present, arguing that it is absurd to blame his client for what happened, despite the accusations from Luque, Cosachov, and psychologist Carlos Díaz.

In another context, it was mentioned that in the second hearing of the Criminal Oral Court No. 3 of San Isidro, where it will be discussed whether Baqué will continue to legally represent Almirón, Maradona's family and the Prosecutor's Office supported the lawyer's continuation in the defense of the nurse. Dalma Maradona, Fernando Burlando, Mario Baudry (lawyer for Diego Fernando), and Verónica Ojeda also requested that Baqué remain in the case, which will be discussed shortly.
