Rio Negro Police to Remain in Custody in Wife Murder Case

The Rio Negro police officer, Emerson Rubén Marín, accused of shooting his wife to death in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, will remain in custody on a preventive basis. This concerns the officer accused of the murder of Cristina Estefanía Civardi. Both were at a home in the Los Radales neighborhood, where, in the early hours of July 30, 2025, the alleged perpetrator used his service firearm, which resulted in the young woman's death. The Guarantees Judge extended the precautionary measure, considering the risk of flight, the possible obstruction of the investigation, and the evidence, while extending the pre-trial criminal stage until August 1, 2026, according to information from the official site of the Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF). Meanwhile, the prosecutor's office emphasized that forensic examinations, as well as ballistic analysis and reconstructions of the event are still pending, as learned by the Argentine News Agency. The civil plaintiff adhered to the requests, while the defense objected, requesting that Marín remain under house arrest. The officer is accused of triply qualified homicide due to the relationship, for being committed by a man against a woman, involving gender-based violence and the use of a firearm (femicide).
