An Argentine court has again denied house arrest to Russian citizen Konstantin Rudnev, accused of leading a sect. Judges found no grounds for the measure, citing a lack of evidence of serious health issues that cannot be treated in prison.

Russian Sect Leader in Bariloche to Remain in Prison

Russian citizen Konstantin Rudnev, accused of leading a sect in Bariloche, will remain in custody after the Justice system once again rejected his defense's request for house arrest. This time, it was stated that there are no grounds or health complications that justify such a measure. According to information provided to the Argentine News Agency, a hearing was held on Wednesday morning, where it was confirmed that Rudnev will not be granted house arrest, as there is no evidence of serious health problems that cannot be treated in prison. Days ago, Federal Guarantees Judge Gustavo Javier Zapata had decided to grant house arrest due to alleged health issues, which prompted the Prosecutor's Office to appeal immediately. This led the judge to rule that the measure should not be carried out immediately and would be subject to review, which took place on Wednesday morning, January 28th. The Federal Appeals Court of General Roca rejected the measure once again. In the defense's latest submission, it was explained that the Russian leader has lost 50 kilograms since his detention and suffers from multiple pathologies, with some of his conditions being attributed to the language barrier in the prison. Nevertheless, judicial authorities now maintain that there is no evidence to deny a health risk situation for Rudnev. A similar incident occurred in mid-July of last year when the Justice system also denied him house arrest.
