People can get infected by inhaling contaminated particles or through direct contact with rodents. Additionally, in Patagonia, one of the country's endemic regions, there is a variant that can be transmitted from person to person, although this is uncommon. As for frequent symptoms, they include fever, muscle aches, headache, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, so the public is advised to seek medical attention promptly. Health authorities in Río Negro have confirmed a positive case of hantavirus, a disease generally transmitted through rodents that come out in search of food at this time of year. A 43-year-old construction worker was admitted to the Bariloche Regional Hospital on Saturday with a fever. After the relevant tests, doctors confirmed he had hantavirus. According to authorities, the man was performing various jobs on the west side of the city when he started to feel unwell and was referred to the hospital, where he will remain hospitalized for a few more days. Hantavirus is a severe acute viral disease, whose main transmitter is the long-tailed rat, which eliminates the virus through saliva, urine, and feces.
