After the death of a woman in Bariloche due to hantavirus, health authorities have intensified prevention measures to avoid the spread of the disease and reduce the presence of rodents in the area.
The initial symptoms of hantavirus include high fever, muscle pain, headache, vomiting, and general malaise, which can lead to severe respiratory failure.
To prevent the spread of the virus, the municipality and health authorities recommend keeping spaces clean and disinfected, ventilating closed warehouses, deposits, and homes before entering, storing food and waste in airtight containers, sealing cracks, and avoiding the presence of rodents in homes and public spaces, as well as using gloves and masks when cleaning places at risk of contamination.
Authorities urge the population to take precautions and visit a health center if symptoms compatible with the disease appear. In this context, environmental control protocols, awareness campaigns, and strict recommendations for the community have been implemented.
The victim, 39 years old, had been admitted to San Carlos Sanatorium with symptoms compatible with the disease and, despite medical efforts, passed away last Sunday due to respiratory complications. As a precautionary measure, 24 people who had close contact with the woman have been isolated and are under epidemiological surveillance for a period of 45 days.
Hantavirus is a viral disease transmitted by contact with the feces, saliva, or secretions of wild rodents, especially the long-tailed rat, and the most common way of contagion occurs through inhalation of contaminated particles in closed environments.
Meanwhile, prevention operations continue to reduce the risk of new infections in the region.
