Arrest in Bariloche for Provoking Forest Fire

A 45-year-old man, a citizen of Rosario, has admitted to being responsible for the forest fire on Cerro Meta in Bariloche, which arose last Saturday and was successfully controlled thanks to the rain and the efforts of the firefighters.

The fire occurred in an area near Lake Gutiérrez, southwest of Bariloche. According to witness statements, during the firefighting efforts, the individual explained that he lost control of a campfire he had started to dry wet clothes, which caused the ignition point.

The man claimed he had no intention of starting a fire and that, upon realizing the situation, he alerted the relevant authorities. After his confession, he was arrested, and the case is now under the jurisdiction of Federal Justice, as the incident took place in a National Park.

Although the fire has been contained, the authorities of Nahuel Huapi National Park have decided to restrict water activities until further notice as a precautionary measure.

The good news is that, according to the weather forecast, no wind gusts are expected this week, which will facilitate the work of the firefighters and experts who continue to work in the area to prevent possible reactivations of the fire.
