The classic Rosario match marked a critical moment for Newell's, as the defeat deepened the team's football crisis and led to the dismissal of Mariano Soso as coach. Despite claiming he had the "strength" to continue, management opted to terminate his position and quickly found his replacement in Cristian "El Ogro" Fabbiani, who resigned from his position at Deportivo Riestra to join the Rosario club.
Soso's cycle at Newell's lasted only 9 matches between 2024 and 2025, with a record of two victories, one draw, and six defeats. In contrast, Fabbiani generated consensus among Newell's executives and is expected to be presented as the new coach of the team in the coming hours.
In a farewell message on social media, Fabbiani thanked Deportivo Riestra for being his home for so long and mentioned Victor, who believed in his work as a coach when no one else did. The former footballer also expressed his gratitude to Diego Figueroa, the club's manager, as well as to executives, staff, and players, wishing them success in the future.
After Fabbiani's resignation, Deportivo Riestra appointed Gustavo 'Tata' Benítez, a former player of the club and until then Team Manager, as his successor in the coaching role. Benítez will now lead the team in the Primera División.
