Violent Clashes Erupt After Newell's Defeat

The unrest at Newell's manifested in the streets through clashes with the police, which responded with rubber bullets and tear gas. Some circulating videos showed the repression of fans on the ground, and the Ministry of Security of Santa Fe reported eight people detained and four police officers injured.

The crisis in the red and black team is not only sports-related, with irregular performance in the tournament, but also institutional. After the defeat against Defensa y Justicia, which was the fourth in five matches of Zone A of the Apertura 2025, a group of fans insulted the Board of Directors and expressed their discontent.

Gustavo Velázquez, coordinator of Sports Security for the province, acknowledged that the atmosphere at the club was tense and the disturbances were predictable. Amid this situation, uncertainty grows about the traditional rally before the classic match against Rosario Central.

The match against Defensa y Justicia ended with serious incidents, police repression, and a tense atmosphere just a few days before the anticipated classic. The team led by Mariano Soso lost 1-0 at home, and fans erupted against the management.

Newell's next challenge will be to face Rosario Central on Sunday at 5 PM, in a new chapter of the Rosario classic. Despite the crisis, the Ministry of Security assures that they are prepared to provide the necessary security operation.
