Four men have been sentenced to life in prison for the murders of Claudia Debdebio and Virginia Ferreyra, a mother and daughter who were killed in July 2022 in Rosario. Prosecutors in the case stated during the trial that these crimes were intended to instill fear in the city.
On Monday, at the Criminal Justice Center, judges Alejandro Negroni, Facundo Becerra, and Gonzalo López Quintan delivered the verdict against René Ungaro, Nicolás Martínez, Fernando Cortez, and his son Lautaro Cortez, who were accused of instigating and committing the homicides.
Prosecutors Franco Carbone and Patricio Saldutti, in charge of the investigation, stated during the closing arguments that the victims were killed while waiting for a bus, that their murders were committed to "generate fear," and that the entire plot was orchestrated from prison.
The Case On July 23, 2022, both victims and a man were at a bus stop on the corner of Maestros Santafesinos and Isola streets when at least four men in a black Peugeot 308 car fired shots at Tower 11 and the people present there.
"As a result of these shots, the older woman died at the scene, while her daughter and the other person were urgently transferred to Dr. Clemente Álvarez Emergency Hospital, where Ferreyra died weeks later," stated the Public Prosecutor's Ministry in a report accessed by the Argentine News Agency.
Even so, in mid-November, the Santa Fe Regional Prosecutor's Office 2 indicated that the reward for anyone providing concrete information about the other two remaining accused who are still at large has been increased.
According to the prosecution, the fugitives were in the vehicle involved in the homicide.
