Two inmates serving sentences at the prison in the Buenos Aires city of Baradero were charged with the crime of 'fraud' against a disabled woman residing in Rosario. They took advantage of her condition to persuade her to make several money transfers. Both executed the scheme between 2023 and late 2025, when the young woman's mother noticed a shortfall in her personal account, amounting to approximately 31 million pesos. Consequently, she filed the corresponding complaint, and an investigation was launched. Authorities ultimately managed to identify the two men: Martín Iván Patane, 37, and Alber Brolin Caba Martínez, 31, of Bolivian nationality, who had access to mobile phones, which facilitated contact and served to convince the victim. After analyzing the evidence and hearing the defendants' statements, Judge Alejandro Negroni ordered preventive detention for Patane for two years, while the other accused received a three-month sentence, according to Noticias Argentinas agency. During the two years of contact, Patane pretended to be in a long-distance relationship with the young woman, who has an intellectual disability, and even promised to travel to Rosario to meet in person, but 'never had the real intention of doing so,' stated Prosecutor Aurelio Cicerchia. The criminal convinced the young woman to make several transfers during that period to the accounts of other inmates, including Caba Martínez.
