The documentary «Revelar» explores the intuitions and premonitions that grandchildren and great-grandchildren had before discovering their true identity. Director Fermín Rivera defines his film as follows: «It reveals the signs and feelings that granddaughters and grandsons had before knowing their true identity». Never feeling comfortable with that date, upon recovering his identity, he learned his true date of birth, which was healing. These are some of the stories featured in the documentary. «It's hard for all of us to ask ourselves who we are...» What motivated me to make a documentary like this is that I am a documentarian and we are contemporaries of a tragedy unprecedented in our country: the theft of babies, of identities, and I felt I had to do something. After recovering his identity, he learns that his father was disabled and that he was rocked in his wheelchair for his first eight months. Those doubts about identity and origin are common situations that most of us live through. Intuitions, suspicions, behaviors that emerged in them from certain everyday situations that entered into an undeclared but revealed dialogue with their family roots. «As a child, Claudia Poblete played in a little wheeled chair, pretending she couldn't walk; she said she was 'paralyzed'. After recovering her identity, she learns that her mother had the same habit. He adds: «What I proposed was to tell how, even when one tries to hide identity, origin sooner or later surfaces». As the 50th anniversary of the last genocidal coup in our country approaches, identity remains a theme that crosses those who 'lost' it but some were able to recover it in the 43 years of democracy. That's why I think the public values this novel approach in a context of negationism from this far-right government we are suffering, and that's why it's good to have different answers». «No one feels alien to an experience lived with their own name, their own birthday, or to those childhood jokes older siblings make, like 'we found you...', 'you're darker...' this, you that. Identity seeks and investigates its own origin». In this production, Fermín tries to recover, in the voices of his protagonists, the signs of stolen identity from some grandchildren and children of the disappeared during the bloodiest period of our country. Whether through testimonies, DNA tests, or from doubts and premonitions that their true self had to be revealed, discovered in the face of so much horror, forced disappearances, torture, murders, and detentions. In that reconstruction, this documentary by the filmmaker emerges. It manifests itself through clues and signals. Tomorrow, March 22, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Military, Civic, and Ecclesiastical Coup, the documentary «Revelar, Clues of Identity», by director Fermín Rivera, will be screened at 8:00 PM at the Centro Cultural Cine Lumière, Velez Sarsfield 1027, in Rosario. On other occasions, I made a short film called «The Forgetfulness» in the Historias Breves series, and I always felt the need to address this topic until I found the right approach, which had to do with clues, and when I started investigating, I found several from the grandchildren who participate in this documentary». The research and filming process took quite a long time, even crossed by the pandemic,» Fermín told ANRed in an interview. As to whether it is a necessary film, the director responded: «What people give me back at screenings is that yes, it is necessary, and not so much the film itself, but rather the approach. Telling the experiences, the memories, the clues of those granddaughters and grandsons, the issue of the name, the birthday, what they felt about all this. These are strong, moving things, and they are approached differently than conventionally. Sometimes identity expresses itself in the least expected way: with a lullaby, with a blurry image from a dream, with a simple family photo or a toy. That's why I think «Revelar» is a film in which it is very difficult not to feel identified,» adds Fermín, inviting to the screening tomorrow at 8 PM at the Centro Cultural Cine Lumière.
