Rosario Stock Exchange to Hold Elections Without Unified List

Buenos Aires, November 24 (NA) -- The Rosario Stock Exchange, one of the country's most important entities, will hold internal elections this Thursday for the third time in its 141-year history without a unified list, amidst disputes between the ruling party and an opposition demanding the recovery of the institution's 'lobbying power.' Pablo Bortolato, vice president of the Argentine Market of Values (MAV), heads the list backed by the current president of the BCR, Miguel Simioni, while the opposition will be led by Víctor Cabanillas, with Soledad Aramendi, president of the Rosario Rural Society, as his deputy. Aramendi has shed light on the internal struggle within the BCR. According to the Argentine News Agency, she has expressed on several occasions that the entity needs 'an institution worthy of the circumstances, a lobbying exchange with its technical commissions, so that this material can then be used to solve problems and transform management.' Many leaders interpret the presence of the Rosario Rural Society on the opposition list as an advance for agricultural sector leaders over other previously dominant sectors, such as the one represented by Bortolato. The BCR brings together entities and leaders from agricultural, livestock, and stock market chains, and in this internal struggle, cross-interests and differences dating back to the Vicentín crisis are intertwined. After unsuccessful negotiations for a unified list, Bortolato aligned the current leadership behind his candidacy and announced the continuity of the management initiated by Simioni, who took office with a tarnished image due to the fall of Vicentín and the 'Notebooks Case,' which involves some sector businessmen. Bortolato recently stated that he will promote 'an open exchange' because he believes 'the relationship with entities must continue.' Meanwhile, other ruling members trust in maintaining harmony with the State at various levels, both provincial and national. Economic agenda: INDEC calendar and the evolution of the dollar Regarding the relationship with the national government, Simioni's management ensures there is a direct line with the economic team, which will continue if Bortolato's official list wins. In contrast, the opposition led by Cabanellas objects to the BCR's lack of influence on state strategic policies, citing the 'Hidrovía' tender as an example, in which they claim the current leadership did not participate due to a lack of 'lobbying power' and disconnection from the national government. The opposition list conveys optimism about the results of Thursday's election, suggesting it could be similar to the October 26 national elections, when no one expected the result achieved by La Libertina Avanza. After years of a unified list, the question of how the entity's internal relations will shape in the future, regardless of who wins, remains unknown.
