Guillermo Labadie, Vice Director of the Rosario Chemical Institute - IQUIR and Director of Conicet Rosario, expressed his concern regarding the budget for the year 2023 and the complementary funds from the National University of Rosario that provide minimal funding for infrastructure. Labadie pointed out that there are currently competitions and calls on hold, which is causing discouragement as many young people interested in pursuing a scientific career are being harmed.
In an interview on the program "A Perfect Program" on UNR 103.3 radio along with AnalĂa Provensal, Labadie discussed the current situation of science amid the decrease in funding from the government of Javier Milei. He highlighted the lack of government planning in the field of science and mentioned that, while it is understandable to have a different view on science, there are laws regulating funding that should be respected.
The Rosario researcher lamented the absence of a plan or clear guidelines in the area of Science and Technology for approximately a year. Labadie emphasized the importance of having defined strategies and policies in this field to ensure the development and continuity of scientific research in the country.
