Buenos Aires, March 10 (NA) — Leaders of the CGT's 'hardline' faction, including Abel Furlán and Daniel Yofra, will travel to Tierra del Fuego this Wednesday to support the local UOM union's demands. On that day, the union will stage a strike in protest against layoffs at an air conditioning factory due to its closure. The UOM's Río Grande branch had announced a strike at all factories in the Fuegian city in support of the 140 workers from Aires del Sur who were left jobless after the plant's sudden shutdown. Oscar Martínez, the local UOM's general secretary, detailed that the strike will begin at 2 PM and last for three hours, and will include a march to the gates of Aires del Sur, where a rally will be held at 2:30 PM. Participating in the event will be Furlán, the national UOM's general secretary; ATE's head, Rodolfo Aguiar; and Yofra, the general secretary of the Oilseed and Cotton Gin Federation. 'We condemn the abandonment of 140 workers and their families,' stated Martínez days ago.
