Buenos Aires, Jan 19 (NA) – A man is in critical condition after being run over and shot at by “mistake” over 10 days ago in the province of Córdoba. A suspect has been detained, and according to reports, the accused is said to have mistaken the victim for someone else in a settling of scores.
The victim has been identified as Paolo de la Fuente. On the evening of January 7, he was returning from playing soccer in the Fénix neighborhood when he was unexpectedly run over and dragged several meters by a Volkswagen Vento car. However, this was not a traffic accident, but an intentional act, evidenced by the fact that the driver got out and shot the man 15 times in the leg while he was lying on the ground.
Investigation was led by Prosecutor Pablo Jávega until January 15, when he went on recess, so the case is now in the hands of the Río Cuarto Fiscal Unit.
After the judicial recess, Prosecutor Javier Di Santo will be in charge of the investigation. Sources in the case confirmed to the Argentine News Agency that after several days of investigation, a suspect was arrested and a statement was taken from him. In this regard, it was confirmed that the 26-year-old detainee had mistaken the victim in a settling of accounts case, so the attack was an error. Although the case is now in the hands of another prosecutor, the accused has been charged with qualified homicide in the attempt.
Currently, Paolo is in serious condition at the San Antonio de Padua Hospital in Río Cuarto, where he is in an induced coma, and doctors had to amputate one of his legs. It is expected that on Wednesday, January 21, at 8:00 PM, family, friends, and neighbors will march in front of the Río Cuarto Municipality to demand justice.
