The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, inaugurated the school year in the province emphasizing the importance of continuing to invest in Public Education and social justice. The event took place in the municipality of Pilar, where an Educational Pole was inaugurated, including a kindergarten, primary schools, secondary schools, and a university. Present at the event were the mayor Federico Achával and the director general of Culture and Education, Alberto Sileoni.
In his remarks, Kicillof highlighted the efforts of children and their families, creating opportunities for better development. Facing criticism about the effectiveness of public educational infrastructure, the governor emphasized that a path is being opened toward a better future for young people, ensuring free and quality public education for all ages, regardless of their economic conditions.
During the ceremony, it was pointed out that the land where the Educational Pole was erected used to be a vacant lot, and with this new infrastructure, the capacity of the kindergarten was doubled, opening 1,600 new spots in primary and secondary schools. Kicillof highlighted the joint efforts of students, teachers, and support staff that make the daily functioning of public schools in the province possible.
The governor also mentioned the start of the first day of classes for 5 million Buenos Aires students in a timely compliance with the school calendar for the sixth consecutive year. He thanked the entire educational community for their daily work and compared the situation in the province, where construction and expansion of schools continues, with the halt and defunding of Public Education at the national level. The construction of 20 new schools is projected by April and 30 more by the end of the year.
