Violent Evictions in Pilar Spark Community Outrage

On January 2nd, an eviction of more than 80 families took place in the Río Luján neighborhood, in Pilar, Buenos Aires. Since then, neighbors have been organizing and denouncing the event, demanding answers.

Among the highlighted demands is the call for mediation to ensure the respect for the human rights of the affected families, the implementation of immediate measures to ensure a dignified housing solution, and the compliance with constitutional principles and rights enshrined in national legislation.

It has been pointed out that the eviction was carried out without prior conciliation, resulting in a violation of the rights of girls, boys, and adolescents. Additionally, the lack of transparency regarding the reasons that justified the measures and the refusal to show the court order during the eviction is highlighted.

Acts of police violence against neighbors during the eviction are reported, which has left many families in a state of extreme vulnerability, without a place to sleep and with significant property losses. Despite this, no response has been received from the competent authorities.

The affected community is organizing and mobilizing in search of support and solutions. Protests have been held, and actions are being carried out to assist homeless families. It is emphasized that the situation violates the right to adequate housing, enshrined in international treaties and national legislation.
