Strong Storm Floods Olavarría City in Argentina

The passage of a strong storm through the Buenos Aires city of Olavarría left a critical scene this Sunday morning, with flooded houses and streets completely waterlogged at various strategic points in the urban area. The meteorological phenomenon, which also affected other municipalities in the central and eastern parts of the province, forced the National Meteorological Service (SMN) to issue urgent alerts for strong storms and heavy rains. According to the agency, districts such as Azul, Bolívar, Rauch, and Saladillo, as well as Olavarría, were under threat due to heavy rainfall and the occasional presence of hail. In the Olavarría locality, the areas that suffered the most complications were the Villa Floresta, Juan Martín de Pueyrredón, and Mariano Moreno neighborhoods, the Argentine News Agency was able to learn. In these zones, the drainage system collapsed quickly due to the rains developing in a short period of time, which caused water to enter homes. The municipality also emphasized the importance of not circulating to not hinder the drainage of water, warning that traffic could "worsen the flooding and complicate drainage tasks." Meanwhile, the SMN kept the province under orange and yellow alert, a category that defines "dangerous meteorological phenomena for society, life, property, and the environment." Neighbors reported serious difficulties in traveling throughout the morning, while official agencies continuously monitored the evolution of the climate to guarantee the safety of the community. Faced with this situation, the Municipality implemented cuts in different sectors and expressly requested the population to "avoid going out into the public way, except in cases of strict necessity." After the collapse of the drainage system due to heavy rains, the municipality restricted circulation in the urban area.
