The third edition of the Latam Forum, organized by the International Economic Forum of the Americas (IEFA), featured the participation of prominent figures from the energy sector. In this context, Jorge Vidal, General Manager for Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile at SLB, highlighted the extraordinary growth that the Vaca Muerta basin has experienced over the last 15 years, anticipating even greater development in the coming decade.
The governor of Neuquén, Rolando Figueroa, emphasized the positive impact that the growth of Vaca Muerta has had in his province, referring to the creation of a "new humid Pampas, without climate problems." Figueroa underscored the importance of maintaining a line of knowledge in the sector, fostering dialogue between the public and private sectors to continue attracting investments.
In the panel titled "The Potential of Vaca Muerta to Redefine the Energy Sector," it was mentioned that there are currently 51 concession areas representing 35% of the productive sectors of Vaca Muerta. Figueroa emphasized the relevance of political decisions that support sustainability and provide legal security to attract investments in the energy sector.
Catherine Remy, General Director of Total Energies, analyzed the growth of the regional gas market, highlighting the importance of demand from Brazil in this area. Remy pointed out the steady growth of gas demand in Brazil, reaching between 70 and 100 million cubic meters per day, which projects a promising future for the region.
In this sense, the need to promote strategic alliances that allow for the continuous growth of the sector, both nationally and with other Latin American countries, was emphasized. Figueroa clarified that the investment in technology, machinery development, and work underground are fundamental to seize the opportunities presented in the coming decades.
