A 13-year-old teenager assaulted a linesman during a football match in Mendoza. The incident raised concerns and possible sanctions for the Godoy Cruz club.

Violent Incident at Godoy Cruz Match

The author of the aggression against the linesman Diego Martín, during the match between Godoy Cruz and Talleres at the Víctor Legrotaglie stadium, has been identified by the authorities. The individual is a 13-year-old adolescent, who, due to his age, cannot be criminally charged. The identification was achieved through the analysis of the stadium's security cameras.

The incident occurred at the start of the second half when the assistant referee positioned himself near the touchline, in the section where the Godoy Cruz fans were located. At that moment, a blunt object, a PVC pipe, struck his forehead, causing a cut and considerable swelling. Despite receiving medical attention on the field, the assistant could not continue, leading the main referee, Yael Falcón Pérez, to suspend the match.

The episode generated a new scandal for the Mendoza club, which already had a history of violence in its stadium. The institution issued a statement condemning what happened and committed to cooperate with the authorities to clarify the facts. Meanwhile, the minor aggressor was summoned along with his parents to present themselves before the juvenile prosecution.

On the other hand, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has not yet spoken about the possible sanctions that Godoy Cruz may face. It is expected that the Disciplinary Tribunal will analyze the reports from the clubs, the referee, and the Mendoza Police before making a decision. Among the measures being evaluated are the rescheduling of the match, economic sanctions, and, in the worst case, the closure of the stadium.
