Various provincial legislators from Mendoza and San Juan have decided to set aside their historical rivalries to work together on a project that revives the so-called 'Cuyano Parliament.' This has been led by Mendoza senator Germán Vicchi (PRO) and has generated some distrust among citizens regarding its usefulness.
Recently, senators and deputies from both provinces met in an effort to find areas of agreement and collaboration, aiming to turn these local agreements into nationally consensual legislative proposals. The goal is to present these proposals to the National Government as an expression of the region's desires and as an attempt to work together for the common good.
Among the issues addressed are matters related to infrastructure, public works, and the streamlining of customs and immigration procedures between Argentina and Chile. One of the main points is the proposal to enable the Pehuenche Border Crossing in Mendoza for heavy cargo transport, as well as to repair and maintain the national roads leading to the border crossings of Mendoza and San Juan.
Other proposals include the integration of customs at the Agua Negra Crossing in San Juan, the activation of the railway system in the Cuyo region, and the implementation of an Interprovincial Tourist Map. Additionally, it is recommended to modernize customs and immigration facilities, to contract tourist services in nearby areas, and to ensure health services in these facilities.
Legislators emphasize the importance of seriously addressing issues that affect everyone, such as dengue prevention and the improvement of political coexistence. Although there are differences in methods and the application of decisions, in general, the three provinces seem aligned with the policies of Javier Milei, with the common goal of improving the quality of life for Argentines.
