On Wednesday, firefighters from the Mendoza Police Central Station rescued a 39-year-old woman who fell approximately three meters into the Cacique Guaymallén Canal, in the Ujemvi neighborhood, Las Heras department, Mendoza. According to the Argentine News Agency, the incident occurred when the woman was walking along the edge of the ditch, and part of the ground collapsed, creating a sinkhole that caused her to fall into the water. The Cacique Guaymallén Canal is a key hydraulic infrastructure in the province used for irrigation and alluvial drainage. It crosses the metropolitan area of Greater Mendoza from south to north. After the fall, the woman took shelter between the collapsed section and a stone until she was rescued. Firefighters, according to the Mendoza Government, improvised a firm surface using a ladder to ensure safe working conditions, and subsequently, using vertical rescue techniques, two personnel descended into the canal with ropes. With elements such as a harness, vest, and rope system, the woman was rescued without major complications.
