On Wednesday, Argentina Mining Cuyo 2025 kicked off in the city of Mendoza, with the attendance of Mayor Ulpiano Suarez, Governor of the province Alfredo Cornejo, the Secretary of Mining of the Nation Luis Lucero, the Minister of Energy and Environment Jimena Latorre, and the Director of Argentina Mining, Javier Rojas. Mayor Ulpiano Suarez stated: "It is a great honor to welcome you all to this great city of Mendoza within the framework of Argentina Mining 2025, an event that returns to our province after 17 years and consolidates itself as one of the most relevant forums in the region." Governor Alfredo Cornejo highlighted: "The Argentine economy cannot continue to depend only on agriculture. We are here to talk about the future, growth, and innovation, building an agenda together that will empower the province and the country." The city mayor also stressed that "Argentina is at a key moment: we have strategic resources such as lithium and copper that can position us as leaders in the global energy transition. Mendoza is working to attract top-tier investments and develop a modern, sustainable mining industry with the highest environmental standards." In turn, the Secretary of Mining of the Nation, Luis Lucero, emphasized: "The first project to produce copper significantly in Argentina was going to be in Mendoza. What this implies in terms of a change of approach, vision, and consensus in a society as civil as that of Mendoza, says a lot and very well about the kind of consensus you can achieve, and the kind of leadership you seek and achieve." On the same occasion, Cornejo announced four central laws to advance sustainable mining: he confirmed the sending to the Legislature of the Mining Royalties Law, the Environmental Impact Declarations for PSJ Cobre Mendoza and Malargüe Western Mining District II; and the creation of an Environmental Compensation Fund. "Our objective is for this growth to generate quality employment, boost a local value chain, and ensure that the benefits are distributed fairly, promoting well-being and development for all Mendoza residents," he added. "The agribusiness engine is not enough to sustain development. Today another engine was turned on, that of unconventional oil and gas. So, humbly, I express my absolute admiration and congratulations to the government for what it has achieved in this short time and I wish from the bottom of my heart that they continue like this," Lucero concluded.
