Argentina consolidates itself as a central player in global winemaking, ranking eighth as a wine producer and eleventh as an exporter worldwide. Winemaking in Argentina covers nearly 200,000 hectares planted with vines, distributed across 22,039 vineyards, positioning it as the seventh country with the largest area dedicated to vine cultivation.
This data was presented during the celebration of the National Grape Harvest Festival in the province of Mendoza. The winemaking activity extends across 18 Argentine provinces, with 856 active wineries by the end of 2024.
Argentina also stands out as the ninth largest wine consumer in the world. In 2024, the country's wine exports reached U$S 933 million, including various varieties such as bottled wine, bulk wine, concentrated grape juice, raisins, and fresh grapes. Argentine wine, in addition to being part of the culture and the table of Argentines, contributes to the construction of identity and the national brand in the world.
During a breakfast organized by the Argentine Wine Corporation (COVIAR), attended by more than a thousand people, governors from wine-producing provinces like Mendoza, San Juan, and Jujuy, ministers, legislators, representatives from wine companies, and over 500 entrepreneurs from the sector were present.
In the context of this event, agreements were signed with the Federal Investment Council (CFI), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the National Tourism Secretariat to promote wine tourism in Argentina, as well as with the Jujuy government to establish a new Wine Development Center in the region.
According to the Argentine Wine Observatory, exports in the sector increased by 15.3% compared to the previous year, highlighting the leadership in the volume of bottled wine shipments, as well as significant increases in exports of concentrated grape juice and raisins.
"The strategic vision of the sector challenges us to enhance innovation, sustainable development, and the integration of all actors in the productive chain," emphasized Mario González, president of COVIAR, highlighting the importance of continuing to strengthen the Argentine winemaking industry both nationally and internationally.
