The mayor of General Pueyrredón, Guillermo Montenegro, has filed a legal complaint holding Juan Grabois and the Movement of Excluded Workers (MTE) responsible for the blockade that has affected access to the Municipal Urban Services Entity (Emsur) in Mar del Plata for seven days.
The protest, led by the Argentine Federation of Cartoneros, Carriers, and Recyclers (FACCyR) and the Urban Recyclers Cooperative of Mar del Plata (RUM), seeks improvements in infrastructure on the site, which has negatively impacted urban services in the city, such as garbage collection and spraying for disease prevention.
In a press conference, Montenegro expressed his concern, stating that the protest is "holding the city's neighbors hostage," and added that he considers this situation more of a criminal act than a political negotiation.
Over the weekend, the situation worsened with a fire in Sierra de los Padres, as the blockade has prevented park rangers from accessing the vehicles and equipment necessary to combat the fire. This poses a risk, especially given the high temperatures forecasted for the coming days.
In light of this crisis, Laura Muñoz Mora, representative of Emsur, requested a precautionary measure from the local judiciary to allow access to the site and to allocate the necessary resources to control the fire in the Laguna de los Padres Natural Reserve.
