Mar del Plata Residents Outraged by Tower Construction

Residents of the Stella Maris neighborhood in the coastal city of Mar del Plata have expressed outrage over the approval of a 35-story tower, denouncing irregularities in the project's approval process. According to various local media reports accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the construction, located in an area characterized by historic chalets, has drawn strong criticism from local residents, civil organizations, and others who agree the building will negatively impact the urban landscape. They also point out that the tower will cast a shadow over the beach, affecting both the natural environment and the historical value of the area, as it will be built in a zone dominated by low-rise properties, which has exacerbated tensions between developers and residents. Meanwhile, according to Qué Digital, the organization Mirada Ciudadana has filed a criminal complaint against the architect who signed the project's urbanistic justification, claiming he has not been licensed to practice since 2011. They also noted that the case reached the courts in 2022, when a lawsuit filed by neighbors temporarily halted the project, but after some reviews and hearings, municipal authorities decided to approve the work, arguing it complies with all current regulations.
