A young construction worker was sentenced this Friday to life in prison for the double homicide of pensioners María Angélica Rossi and Elizabet Othondo, committed in this city in mid-2023. The Oral Court in Criminal Matters No. 2, made up of Federico Cecchi, Roberto Falcone, and Alexis Simaz, sentenced Jonathan Darío Cáceres, 33, as the material author of the doubly aggravated homicides. During the trial, Cáceres denied his responsibility and stated that on the date of the crimes he was working elsewhere, although in the corresponding examinations, the DNA of the two victims was found on his clothing during a raid that had been carried out at his home. According to what Argentine News Agency learned, and beyond what the defendant presented, the prosecution provided all the necessary evidence, and consequently, the three members of the court agreed to apply the most severe penalty provided for in the Penal Code. On May 5, Cáceres killed Rossi in her house in the Bosques de Peralta Ramos neighborhood and then set the house on fire, but despite the damage caused by the flames, experts managed to find some evidence that incriminated him, such as the mark of his blood-stained sneaker. Likewise, on June 2, the construction worker repeated the procedure at Othondo's house: he robbed several belongings, killed her, and then tried to set the place on fire. However, the defendant had in his possession the cell phone he had stolen during the first crime, which confirmed his location in a lodging on La Pampa street at 1,300, where the raids were carried out that led to the accusation and sentence of the construction worker.
