The traditional meeting organized every January by the head of the Gastronómicos union, Luis Barrionuevo, will take place this Friday at a hotel in the city of Mar del Plata, where the union leader will gather some 400 allied union leaders to analyze the country's situation and the labor reform promoted by the Government. The 2026 Union Leaders Meeting will be held from 9:30 AM at the Presidente Perón Hotel, which belongs to the UTHGRA (Union of Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Workers of the Argentine Republic). The first panel, scheduled for 10:00 AM, will focus on analyzing the labor reform promoted by the Government, which generates strong resistance in almost all sectors of the labor movement due to its impact on collective bargaining agreements, job stability, and the role of trade union organizations. At 11:00 AM, another panel will address the country's economic situation, as learned by the Noticias Argentinas news agency from union sources. The day will conclude with a lunch and the reading of a document that will express the position of the group regarding the country's economic and labor course, and it is expected to be negative towards the libertarian management of Javier Milei.
Barrionuevo's position is that he made public statements in recent days, stating that the CGT will "act" when necessary, while sentencing that the reform "is not going to pass."
"Experience tells us that we have to wait, the CGT professionals are working, they are preparing on time and in form, there is no reason for us to rush. The labor reform has its nuances and I don't think it will pass," he said.
