A prisoner from the Mar del Plata Court Detention Center, Carlos Saúl Leguizamón, caused an uproar by claiming that he had a cockroach in his eye, which led to his urgent transfer to the Interzonal General Hospital (HIGA). According to authorities, Leguizamón, 34 years old, did not have any preventive detention ruling against him at the time of the incident.
Once at the hospital, the man managed to escape, triggering a large operation in the area. After an intense chase, Leguizamón was subsequently captured on Mac Gaul Street at 2000 after a shootout with police officers. During the confrontation, the prisoner was injured in one of his ankles, which ended his escape attempt.
During his brief stay at the Mar del Plata Courts, Leguizamón had claimed that a cockroach had gotten into his eye and was causing him pain, which prompted his transfer to the medical center. After receiving authorization to be taken to the hospital, the individual managed to evade surveillance during his hospitalization, ultimately being detained after the altercation on the street.
Following the incident, it was ordered that Leguizamón be transferred to the Batán Penal Unit, and an investigation was initiated to determine if there was any complicity on the part of the officers in his escape from the police station to the hospital.
