Shooting Suspect in Mar del Plata Refuses to Testify

A man accused of shooting and killing the kiosk owner Cristian Velázquez in the city of Mar del Plata refused to testify and will remain in custody. He is Cristian "El Guachín" Monje, 35 years old, who was transferred to the Courts to meet with a representative of the public defense and was then confronted by the head of the Fifth Prosecutor's Office, Alejandro Pellefrinelli.

According to the portal of the newspaper La Capital, the prosecutor informed Monje that he was charged with "aggravated homicide," a crime that carries a life prison sentence under the Penal Code. Despite this, Monje chose not to provide testimony and was returned to Unit number 44 of Batán, where his accomplice Ignacio "Nacho" Bustos Nieto is detained. It is worth noting that Monje had already been sentenced in 2020 to six years in prison for two other robberies and there was an arrest warrant against him.

The crime against Velázquez occurred on Monday afternoon when Monje entered the kiosk and threatened the owner. Velázquez attempted to defend himself by throwing pepper spray at him, but unfortunately, he received a gunshot to the head that caused his instant death.
