On Saturday, a serious accident occurred on Route 2 involving a car and a capybara. Early in the morning, a Peugeot 308 with five people on board struck a large capybara at kilometer 375 of the highway, near the locality of Vivoratá, approximately 40 kilometers from Mar del Plata. As a result of the impact, the front of the vehicle was destroyed, but the passengers only suffered minor bruises. Unfortunately, the animal died instantly. According to authorities, it is common for capybaras to roam near the highway, as it is their natural habitat, and this type of accident occurs when they attempt to cross the asphalt. An adult capybara can weigh between 40 and 70 kilograms, posing a significant danger to motorists traveling at high speed on Route 2, which connects to the Atlantic coast.
