Child Wounded in Armed Attack in Mar del Plata

Authorities are investigating an armed attack, suspected to be motivated by personal reasons, in which an 18-month-old baby was wounded by a bullet during the early hours of Thursday in the coastal city of Mar del Plata, General Pueyrredón. According to the Argentine News Agency, the incident occurred in a residence in the Chapadmalal Estation area around 2:00 AM, at which time the child was grazed by a projectile on her left arm. Following the incident, the girl's mother took her to the Batány Primary Health Care Center, after which she was transferred to the Maternal and Child Hospital, where she remains hospitalized under observation, but is not in danger. The investigation is being led by prosecutor Romina Díaz, with the involvement of the Eighth Police Precinct, who are trying to determine the origin of the shot and the motives for the attack, as the perpetrator fled after firing. Initial evidence points to a 20-year-old young man with a criminal record, who may have had a personal conflict with the victim's mother's partner. Additionally, his criminal history includes a complaint for similar detonations in another property, as well as charges for 'attempted robbery' in at least two episodes linked to motorcycles. Meanwhile, investigators have already collected ballistic evidence at the scene, taken witness statements, and requested security camera footage from the area to reconstruct the mechanics of the event, determine the caliber of the weapon, the number of shots fired, and whether there was a direct intent to harm the child.
