Mar del Plata Mayor Notes Record Tourist Influx During Long Weekend

The mayor of General Pueyrredon, Guillermo Montenegro, highlighted this Monday the influx of tourists in Mar del Plata during the long weekend, stating that the "almost 160,000" visitors represent an "impressive number".

"The number is impressive. This weekend there were many young people, and the gastronomic scene was booming. In Mar del Plata, you have the option to choose what you pay. You can eat expensively or you can eat cheaply," said the city official.

"This was the first post-pandemic weekend that everyone wanted to go out. There were around 130,000 people, and now it's around 160,000," Montenegro stated in an interview with Radio Rivadavia, as reported by the Argentine News Agency.

Montenegro also pointed out that there was a "40 percent increase" in tourists compared to the same long weekend last year.

"A few years ago, we decided to attract young people to Mar del Plata, and the number of visitors aged 18 to 35 rebounded. They had stopped coming to go to Pinamar or Villa Gessell," he added.

"Before, with the previous government, they subsidized the supply, they didn't sell you dollars, and they forced you to go where they wanted. Now you can choose where you want to go on vacation," he shared.
