Renovation Project for Punta Mogotes Unveiled

In Mar del Plata, the Punta Mogotes area has experienced notable growth in recent years and is no longer limited exclusively to the enjoyment of tourists and local residents during the summer. A complete renovation of this area is being driven by a group of investors led by Augusto Digiovanni, owner of the city's Balneario 12.

The Punta Mogotes renovation project, sponsored by the Universidad Atlántida Argentina and supported by the Federal Investment Council, aims to modernize the area so that it is no longer just a high-season destination. If realized, this investment is expected to generate job opportunities and increase the daily influx of tourists to the complex to reach 120,000 visitors, compared to the current 80,000.

The investor group highlights the value of the lagoons and surrounding areas as quality public spaces within Punta Mogotes. This beach area is vital as a natural space in the south of Mar del Plata, functioning as a green lung that mitigates the environmental impact of industrial activity from the port. The creation of a sustainable school with an ecological focus and an environmental interpretation center in this protected area is planned.

The ambitious modernization plan would include the construction of a school, an amphitheater, recreational and sports areas in the Punta Mogotes complex, which currently hosts various physical activities, especially running, throughout the year. Investors consider the transformation of Mogotes, a leading beach on the Atlantic Coast that receives a large influx of visitors during the summer season, a priority.

The initial investment for the renovation of the common areas of Punta Mogotes is estimated at around six billion pesos. The project includes the creation of a modern pedestrian path, improvements to parking infrastructure, wooden-covered internal streets and pergolas, as well as pedestrian bridges to facilitate connectivity between the beaches, the lagoon, and the port of Mar del Plata.

In addition to physical improvements, the modernization of the infrastructure and services in Punta Mogotes is contemplated, including the optimization of the emergency care hospital in the complex and the implementation of bike lanes to promote sustainable mobility. This plan not only seeks to enrich the experience of tourists but also aims to turn Punta Mogotes into a year-round activity center, boosting the local economy and enhancing its tourist appeal nationally and internationally.
