The councilor of Mar de Ajó, Sergio Santana, recently generated controversy by publishing a comment on social media where he criticized the presence of tourists in the seaside city. Although he deleted the message later, in television statements, Santana reaffirmed his position, mentioning that many people agreed with him.
In his comment, Santana used derogatory terms such as "brown tourism" and "black of m..." to refer to certain visitors, provoking reactions of condemnation on social media and from organizations fighting against discrimination. Despite trying to justify his words by stating that they did not have racial connotations, the controversy intensified.
During an interview with journalist Carlos Bron from TVC5 Noticias, Santana mentioned that the city was experiencing problems of violence and also addressed the situation of marine wildlife in the coastal area, pointing out incidents related to the interaction of tourists with dolphins on the beach.
