Suspect Arrested After Discovery of Charred Body in Las Heras

In the Mendoza city of Las Heras, a burned body of a woman was discovered in an open field, while a man suspected of the alleged femicide is already under arrest. The finding occurred casually when a passerby in the Covitrasay neighborhood spotted the corpse among the weeds and alerted the authorities.

Later, the Scientific Police confirmed that it was the body of a woman and the corresponding investigations were initiated. In parallel, a suspect was arrested in the town of Malargüe, located south of Las Heras, from whom a DNA sample will be collected to be compared with that of the found corpse.

The prosecutor in charge of the case, Gustavo Pirrello, mentioned that they are evaluating the participation of the arrested individual in the crime before determining if he will be charged. Additionally, in statements to the local press, he confirmed that the found body was completely burned and suggested that it could be that of Alejandra Cuevas, a 48-year-old woman missing since late January.

Cuevas lived not far from the location where the body was found, reinforcing the theory that it might be her. Authorities will continue with the investigation to clarify the facts and accurately determine the identity of the victim.
