In 1955, Club Atlético Lanús won the Copa Campeonato Juan Domingo Perón, marking its seventh title in the institution's history. The tournament, which was not regular, was organized by the government of the Province of Buenos Aires and the Argentine Football Association, serving as an inspiration for the Copa Centenario held in 1993.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) officially recognized this title in a ceremony attended by both members of the Lanús board and AFA officials. The effort to recognize this title began more than two years ago and was finally made official in August 2022.
The AFA awarded three trophies to the winner: one from the government of the Province of Buenos Aires and two from the AFA, one replica that remained with Lanús and another that stayed in the association's display case. This official recognition not only honors the club's history but also recovers part of the country’s history in the context of the civil-military uprising that took place in 1955.
The path that led Lanús to be crowned champion in 1955 began with the dispute of the Campeonato Provincia de Buenos Aires - Copa Juan Domingo Perón, in which the team defeated Racing in the first round and then overcame Estudiantes in the semifinals. In the final against Tigre, played at Racing's stadium, Lanús won 2-1 with goals from Rodolfo García and Osvaldo Gil, achieving victory in a dramatic manner. The triumph was defined by the outstanding performance of Juan Urriolabeitía and the effectiveness in attack, culminating in the long-awaited cup conquest by the "Granate" team.
