High-Political Public Works Tour in Lanús

This week, Lanús saw a high-profile political event in its public works agenda. Provincial Minister Gabriel Katopodis and Mayor Julián Álvarez oversaw hydraulic and roadworks in Villa Jardín, focusing on mitigating flooding and improving local circulation. According to the Argentine News Agency, the intervention is part of the MAS program and includes combined tasks for storm drains, reconstruction of sewers, and sidewalk restoration. The main work area was in the Warnes and Osorio district, a sensitive spot prone to rainwater runoff and recurrent potholes. In terms of roadworks, the Municipality reported that the repavement of 25 blocks with concrete from the Olympic Bridge off-ramp has been completed, with the plan including further stages of repavement and pothole repair on strategic local streets. In addition to paving, the intervention includes road signage work, corner realignment, and the installation of ramps for people with reduced mobility, aiming to organize intersections and improve accessibility in a mixed-traffic area (residents, commerce, and through traffic). In parallel, specific hydraulic works are underway—including an intervention in the Osorio and Yatay area—to channel surface water and reduce saturation on stormy days, a long-standing demand from local residents. Local management emphasized that the package of works aims to 'close' multiple debts at once: street + sidewalk + drainage, avoiding partial solutions that tend to break with the first heavy rains.
