On Sunday, Gimnasia y Esgrima de la Plata defeated Platense 1-0 at home in the Juan Carmelo Zerillo stadium. The winning goal was scored by Nicolás Garayalde in the 47th minute of the second half, in a match from the last round of the Apertura Tournament of the Professional Football League.
Platense, which already had its place secured in the Playoffs, finished sixth in Zone B with 23 points and is likely to face Racing in the next stage, unless Tigre manages to win against Boca and changes the scenario. Meanwhile, Gimnasia y Esgrima failed to qualify among the top eight in the group and said goodbye to the tournament.
In the final moments of the match, when a draw seemed inevitable, Juan Pintado sent in a corner kick and Garayalde headed the ball precisely to beat goalkeeper Juan Pablo Cozzani, thus sealing the victory for his team.
