At this moment, we need everyone's help to cover the funeral expenses. We sincerely appreciate the support, love, and prayers during this difficult time".

A 31-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell at Unit 18 in Gorina, La Plata, in an event being investigated as a presumed suicide, while family members started a collection to cover the burial costs.

According to the police report accessed by the Argentine News Agency, it is Alexis Leonel Alvarado Alsina, known as "Cara de Camión", who was detained at the disposal of the La Plata Criminal Oral Court No. 4 as part of a case for aggravated robberies and illegal possession of a firearm.

The episode occurred in the prison located on 501 Street between 148 and 141 bis, when the Buenos Aires Penitentiary Service notified the death of the inmate, who would have taken his own life by hanging himself inside his cell.

The discovery was made in the afternoon, around 5:20 PM, when surveillance personnel detected a situation of self-harm in the area where he was housed, so he was urgently transferred to the establishment's health unit while still alive.

Despite the resuscitation maneuvers performed by medical professionals, his death was confirmed a few minutes later.

The man, from Ensenada, was housed in a special area of the prison due to a history of conflict and previous episodes of self-harm.

His nickname, in turn, was linked to a traffic accident he had years ago with a truck.

Following the event, La Plata's UFIJ No. 06, led by Prosecutor Patricio Barraza, ordered the standard procedures within a case filed as "investigation of the causes of death".

In parallel, acquaintances of the deceased launched a solidarity campaign to raise funds for the funeral costs that they published on social networks: "With great pain, we want to tell you that we are going through a very difficult moment due to the loss of Axel Leonel Álvarez. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us a lot".

After sharing the "alias to collaborate", they informed that the "amount to be raised" was $1 million and highlighted: "Those who cannot help with money can also help us a lot by sharing this message".
